Choosing a default view for lookups

How can I change the default view that is used during record lookups and when I follow linked records? I’ve tried putting the view I want to use in these cases into the top position, this does not work.

I think that maybe when I view a linked record it is using the last view I used for the linked table. I can live with that.

But when I try to add a linked record to a linking field, the lookup window that seem to include all kinds of fields in the list of matching records that I’ve hidden in the first (default?) view (and the last one I used). This is annoying since virtually no useful data ends up showing in this list. How can I get the list to honor the either the first (default?) view or at least the last view I was using in that target table?
