Does the timeline element in Interfaces not work correctly in the unpublished mode?

I have a timeline element which Date filter. It doesn’t seem to do anything when I try it out in the unpublished mode. Am I doing something wrong here? There is data for the filter setting, so not sure why it doesn’t show anything;
