"Long text" type field in expanded view - trouble entering text

I recently changed the field type of a column to “long text” type and since then I find it difficult, and sometimes impossible, to enter any text in that field when I am on the expanded-record screen (which is the usual way I update my databases). The cursor jumps to the bottom right corner of the box and no text is entered.

I have the same problem using Firefox 49.0.2 on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.1. Thanks for looking into this problem!
