Tracking Item Movement with QR Codes/Barcodes and Airtable Automation

How can I setup airtable using QR codes or barcodes generated through a QR / barcode generator with Airtable to track the movement of items between different areas in the same store?

This is mostly to prevent manually updating the location of the scanned item, and automatically detect and update its new location.

Is this possible? If yes, what API could be used and how complicated is this to do for someone that's not a programmer or IT professional?
