Archiving a project after completion

Once a project is completed, what the best way to archive it so the information is available to reuse or reference later?

The best way to do this would be to use dedicated Views with Filters to see what you need to see and filter what you don’t need to see.

You’ll need a field to filter on. Two options work here:

1. A Single-Select field called “Status” with options like “In Progress” and “Completed”
2. A Checkbox field called “Completed” that can be checked when a Project is complete

Then, you’ll want at least 2 Views, one of which filters out “Completed” projects - those you can treat as “Archived”, as they don’t show in your main working view, but they are still there and searchable:

New Idea:
Make VIEWS of COMPLETED Projects and Tasks
MAKE A COMPLETE DUPLICATE OF BASE…rename it as ARCHIVE.
In the ARCHIVE DATABASE Filter and DELETE ALL OPEN PROJECTS and OPEN TASKS.
Then when you complete a Project in ACTIVE BASE. COPY IT to the ARCHIVE BASE and DELETE from ACTIVE BASE.
If you need to re-start an ACTIVE project, you can re-copy the COMPETE/ARCHIVE Project back to the ACTIVE Base.
This is a work around since there is NOT an ARCHIVE FUNCTION. If you only complete a few projects per month, this is not too much extra work and keeps the active BASE “clean”

I realize this is an old thread but I am having this very issue today.  Jeremy's solution is great except the completed project is still active in the base and any calculated fields will still affect the overall base and you need to consciously filter out the completed projects everywhere else in the base.  Kris_Kwalik's solution it perfec but seems like a lot of work to move a project from 'Active' to 'completed and then back if needed. 

To me, the ideal solution would be a Global Archiving Feature that would automatically deactivate a project based on a value or date.  The Project would not affect any rollups or calculated fields. It would be grayed-out or hidden completely everywhere in the entire base or moved into an Archive Table).  To make it active again, you would go to Global Archive settings, click 'Show Archived Projects' change the project to active.
