I am a lawyer and I use Airtable to analyze facts for litigation: i.e. I list all of the relevant facts (like a chronology), then link them with people, issues, etc. In the Airtable, I have a field listing the source for the fact. I use a “bates number” – a unique identifying number stamped on each page of a document in litigation. Most bates numbers look like this XYZ-ABC-000123456. Is there a way to have the computer take the bates number field from Airtable, find a document that has the same bates number as the filename of a pdf (e.g. XYZ-ABC-000123456.pdf), and add that file to the attachment filed of the record? I can point the tool to the particular folder that has all of the pdfs. Many thanks

Welcome to the community, @Justin_Weddle !

As far as I know, scripting does not have access to your computer’s file system. But if your files were cloud-hosted (in Dropbox, for example), you could write a JavaScript to access Dropbox’s API and attach the matching file.

However, for an easy no-code way of accessing Dropbox’s API (or any other cloud service provider’s API), you could simply use Integromat to achieve the same affect.

Of course, once your files are cloud-based, you could always just store their URL in Airtable, and then click on the URL in Airtable to open the file from the cloud service provider. This might also be your best option, because Airtable has a relatively low size limit for attachments in a base.

p.s. Note that I am a professional Airtable consultant and a Registered Integromat Partner, and the Integromat link contains my personal referral code. If you have a budget for this project and you’d like to go down the Integromat path, you can certainly hire me to help you with this! Feel free to contact me through my website at ScottWorld.com.
