I work in IT for a retailer. I have a task that I can do in a spreadsheet with lots of manual labor, but I’m trying to figure out a way to drop data into Airtable such that the analysis I need is largely automated.

We’ve had some negative events on some of our systems.
At each site there are a set of PCs named 1 through 10.
I’m trying to come up with a method for getting a count on the number of events on each numbered system each day.

My input data is a spreadsheet with columns for Date, Site, PC number.

As an example I have 10 rows of events from a given day. Three are from PC 7, 3 from PC 8, 2 from 9.

My desired output would be a table with a single row for a day with a count of effected systems in each a column

Example:

Date | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | etc.
1/8/16 | 1 | 0 | 1| 3 | etc.

I could then take the output and make some charts in Excel.

Is Airtable good for this type of task, or should I just stay in Excel?
Any recommendations on how to structure this would be much appreciated.

(I’ve reviewed and watched much of the Airtable documentation, but my experimentation doesn’t seem to be getting me any closer to what I’m looking for).

Many thanks in advance!
Tim

Hi Tim,

Sounds like you can just use Excel pivot table to do that.

Airtable would be good for collecting such data live from distributed locations.
