I often upload multiple photos to the attachment field, but the process on Airtable iOS is painful. Three taps for each photo, and then have to wait for each file upload to complete before proceeding with the next file. I like Evernote’s photo attachment method where you can tap multiple files and they are numbered in the order you would prefer to view them. Waiting longer one time is better than shorter waits multiple times. This really needs to be fixed and I’m surprised I couldn’t find any other comments for this issue.

Most of my attachments are PDFs of business documents. In their unexpanded state – even in Gallery View –they pretty much all look alike. I would like to be able to quickly identify documents without expanding them, and the easiest way to do that would be to have the thumbnail display a relevant portion of the text at a readable size and resolution. Typically this text is somewhere around halfway down the page, not at the top where logos and indicias are usually found. I’ve tried making the thumbnails bigger and repositioning them by tweaking the CSS; unfortunately, Airtable thumbnails of PDFs are not tiny PDFs – they’re images – and they’re virtually unreadable when artificially enlarged. I would love the option to select from among different thumbnail sizes and resolutions when uploading PDFs or later. Even more, I would love it if the thumbnails of PDFs were the actual PDF documents in all their high-resolution glory. Using the Chrome Inspector, I modified my Airtable code locally and was successful in embedding a scaled-down yet scrollable version of a multipage PDF from a public document website. I realize this may not be practical, but, at minimum, it would be great if we could choose larger or higher-resolution thumbnails and choose what part of the image is displayed.

It would be great if you could paste an image into a cell and either a thumbnail of the image appears OR a URL to the image is created and entered in the cell. If I know a document will require screenshots, I create a google doc instead of using Airtable because it’s just so much easier to use cmd+ctl+shift+4 to generate a screen grab and then paste the image.

It seems that there is no way to get photos attached to records to export. I use a lot of photos - images are a key reason that I turned to AirTable. But it is frustrating that I can’t back the photo aspects of my work to my hard drive. Photo exports could also help AirTable work better in a contact database capacity.

While we love the Row Height option in some of our views, we struggle with how images within attachment fields are previewed. Currently, each image within an attachment field fills the full height of the row/record. This is a sub-optimal use of screen real estate. Instead, we suggest a thumbnail scale option within the field settings. This could be a slider, or simply a choice between 1-up, 2-up and 3-up thumbnail grids. Here’s a before-and-after of what we’re thinking: And if implementing such scaling, why not add it to the Gallery View? While full-frame thumbnails LOOK great, a small grid of thumbnails would likely be more useful in a lot of use cases; particularly as screen resolutions increase.
