Hi there:

Part of how I use Airtable is as a CRM, and I am setting up a table that my staff can use to track customer interactions. We are interacting with hundreds of customers, and itโ€™s very useful to be able to know which staff member was involved in previous communications with a customer. Just like there is a โ€œcreated timeโ€ field type, it would be great to have a โ€œcreated byโ€ field type. Alternatively, a formula that returned the username of the active user would also be a potential solution.

Thanks,
Paul

Also need it! Can we get it? Should be fast and simple to code or?

+1 To add a โ€œDefault to Creatorโ€ switch to the collaborator field

Definitely need this as well so +1.

In the meantime is there a way to pull the creator out of a record with the scripting block?

The Record Revision History Activity often has the data we want to use. Has anyone figured out how to search and use this data (in a formula)?

If you expand your record (click into a record and hit the space bar), the complete historical activity log for each record is right there โ€” including the creation date, creation time, creation name, and the complete editing history of every field: every modification date, every modification time, and every modification field โ€” including what the field was changed from and changed to. Itโ€™s pretty powerful. Iโ€™ve never seen such an in-depth log of changes before.

Granted, the creator name is visible in the activity log but it isnโ€™t available as a searchable field in your database, but now that we have the Javascript scripting block, I wonder if there is some Javascript access to the creator name. If so, you could run a Javascript script to pull the creator name from the activity log into your database.

But yes, in general, โ€œcreated byโ€ would be a great new field for Airtable to add.

Hi guys. We are deciding on subscribing for Airtable, but this feature is really important to us. Is there any plan to implement this?

Thank you for your reply.

best regards

In the meantime, this would be a MANUAL PROCESS on your end, but you could always add a collaborator field to your system, and have your users select their own name from the list of collaborators whenever they create a new record. Obviously not what youโ€™re ultimately looking for, but could be a good stopgap measure.
