Today’s the day: we’ve officially launched Airtable Blocks!

blocks-overview-stills (1).gif

Blocks are modular apps that live on top of your Airtable bases that will allow you to extend your workflows in completely new ways. We’re initially releasing 27 blocks, including ones that let you visualize your information like map, chart, and timeline, and ones that take the information from your base and put it into action, like Google Cloud Vision, translate, and send SMS. (And of course, there will be more blocks coming soon…)

The launch post on our blog has all the details.

Blocks is normally a feature for Pro and Enterprise plans, but don’t worry, free and Plus users: we’re giving everyone a free trial of Blocks until the end of Saturday, March 31.

If you have questions about how to use any of the blocks, check out our knowledge base, which is full of articles and videos to help you out. Even more questions, or ideas for new blocks? Drop us a line at blocks@airtable.com.

Hi @Katherine_Duh

This is great news - I have one question - do blocks you’ve created persist through the Universe when you publish a base and someone down loads it?

It would also be good if the Universe apps showed the Blocks.

Excellent question!

When you publish bases to Universe, there’s now a toggle at the bottom that you can use to choose whether or not you want your blocks to display in Universe.

To enable blocks for bases you’ve already published on Universe, you’ll need to return to your base’s publish page, turn on the Show blocks in published base toggle, and republish your base.

When someone makes a copy of your Universe base that has blocks in it, those blocks will persist, i.e., their copy will include copies of the blocks that were in your base. (If the person who copies your base is on a free or Plus plan after the initial Blocks trial expires, the blocks will be copied, but they will not be able to access or edit them.)

Please note, though, that when the base copy and included blocks are copied, API keys from blocks which use them are NOT copied over. The copying person will need to enter their own API key to enable those copied blocks.

Hope this answers your questions!

Thanks Katherine - I had gone to republish but just saw the message that there were no changes to publish and didn’t look further down the screen - both bases now republished (the Org chart is great in my HR base!!).
