Scripting - possible to get holiday string from a particular view of a table?

Hello all,

Using scripting, is it possible to get the holiday string for a particular view?  e.g. a gantt chart view.  All the posts I have seen use a separate lookup table.  This seems like double handling, and a source of error/confusion.

If not, why not?
