Hi everyone,

I’m developing an app using Softr as a front end and Airtable as the data source. The app serves as both a client portal and an internal operations tool, with 3 user groups: clients, employees, and managers.

Here are the key details:

  • At peak traffic, I expect around 100 concurrent users interacting with the app (creating, updating, and reading records from Airtable).
  • Given Airtable’s 5 requests per second limitation, I’m concerned about potential performance bottlenecks or errors.

I don’t mind if there’s some delay when loading pages; my main concern is ensuring the app functions properly during high traffic.

Questions:

  1. Will the app handle this level of concurrency without running into errors, considering Airtable’s request limits?
  2. Has anyone built something similar and can share their experience?

I’d greatly appreciate your comments and insights!

Thank you!

Yes, this could be a real problem when using Airtable and Softr to create a customer portal .

Check out Softr’s support document on this topic here, which has some fantastic tips on how to workaround this issue.

Hope this helps! If you end up having problems where you aren’t able to workaround the issue, you may want to look at more robust database apps such as Apple’s FileMaker, which can easily handle 100 users concurrently.

I used to be a Certified FileMaker Developer for 26 years before becoming a full-time Airtable consultant, so if you need any referrals to great FileMaker developers, feel free to contact me through my website.

Thank you for your comment. However, I would like to hear from someone who has been in this exact situation and can share their experience regarding their app's performance. Please refrain from responding with anything that is not specifically related to the question I am asking.

  1. Will the app handle this level of concurrency without running into errors, considering Airtable’s request limits?
  2. Has anyone built something similar and can share their experience?

    Thanks

Wow, I think the more appropriate response would be a little bit of gratitude for the research that I did for you on this topic.

Softr wrote an entire support article on your topic on how to solve the problem in a variety of different ways, and just because my clients haven't experienced these sorts of problems with Softr doesn't mean that the information I provided wasn't valuable.

As a community discussion forum, other people are also free to respond with their own personal Softr experiences.
