Grouping with filtering options

When I filter using a column that is set up as ‘single select’, I can just click on one of the possible values to filter by.
When filtering a column that is set up as ‘multiple options’, I have to type in the actual value. Is there a way to set it up so that I can choose one of the possible values even when the column is set up as containing multiple entries? I am concerned that misspelling the filter value might lead to a filtered view that doesn’t have all of the desired records visible.
