Thank you, @ScottWorld. To my embarrassment, it was user error. I had populated a record to use as my test, then used the wrong record. Am confessing to my shame here, in case anyone else finds themselves in the same position.
I can’t make Lookup Fields or Linked Fields appear correctly in Page Designer, either.
In the attached screen shot, the linked field appears in black as “Name,” and the lookup field is the green, empty box - not populated with the associated data.
