I'm aware that I can't make a Single select field a 'Linked record' - at least not the way i'm doing it. But is there a workaround? I have a manual input single select field and I want to create a linked record so that I can display the data differently.

Hmm, what're you trying to do?  You can right click the field header and convert it to a linked field, and connect it to the table of your choice?

Linked field displays name of a record in other table. The name of a record is a value of it's primary field. Single select can't be a primary field.
