Hey guys,
I'm totally new to Airtable and just trying to find my way around. I am or was a private Notion user for a long time, but was looking for a DSGVO-safe alternative with end-to-end encryption for a simple database or customer overview. Currently, however, I can not yet implement the idea, which I have in mind. I imagine the following scenario:
I have a "customer database" where I can store all customers with name, address and contact details. The respective customers I can assign a "tour", that would be either tour 1,2 or tour 3. Tours because I drive out food and have 3 different tours, on which different customers are waiting for me.
It also happens that a customer appears several times a week in the same tour. I would like now that I have created in addition to the "customer database" 3 times the respective tour as a calendar view. In the calendar view I would then like to assign the customers from the customer database to the respective delivery date.
What is the best way to do this? Since I can currently in the calendar view logically only sorted by fixed dates and also can not deposit several times to different dates.
Am I perhaps even wrong with Airtable?
Thanks for your help and have a nice day!

Airtable can indeed be used to create a customer database with linked tours and calendar views, but it may not fully meet your needs for DSGVO (GDPR) compliance and end-to-end encryption. I'll guide you on how to set up your scenario in Airtable, and I'll also suggest a more privacy-focused alternative.
Setting Up in Airtable:
Create a Customer Database Table:
Create a table called "Customers" with fields for Name, Address, Contact Details, and a linked field called Tour.
In the Tour field, you can link each customer to one or more tours (e.g., Tour 1, Tour 2, Tour 3).
Create a Tours Table:
Create a table called "Tours" with fields like Tour Name (Tour 1, Tour 2, etc.) and a linked field for Customers.
Each record in the Tours table represents a specific tour.
Create a Delivery Schedule Table:
Create another table called "Delivery Schedule" with fields for Date, Tour (linked to the Tours table), and Customers (linked to the Customers table).
Here, you can schedule specific customers for delivery on specific dates.
Calendar View:
Create a calendar view in the "Delivery Schedule" table.
You can assign customers to specific delivery dates and tours in this view.
Assigning Customers to Multiple Dates:
In the "Delivery Schedule" table, create multiple records for the same customer on different dates to handle multiple deliveries.
Privacy Considerations:
Airtable is a powerful tool, but it may not fully meet your privacy needs, particularly for GDPR compliance and end-to-end encryption. If privacy is a significant concern, consider the following alternatives:
CryptPad:
CryptPad offers end-to-end encrypted collaboration tools, including databases and calendars. It's a good alternative if you need a more privacy-focused solution.
Turtl:
Turtl is another option that provides encrypted notes and file storage. While it may not have the same database functionality as Airtable, it offers strong privacy features.
Nextcloud with End-to-End Encryption:
If you're open to self-hosting, Nextcloud provides a wide range of apps, including calendar and contact management, with end-to-end encryption you can explore more now on austin cava menu & prices.
