Hi everyone.

Ive got a table with about 8000 names in it,and this was quite happily linked to another table which has about 30 organisations in it. Totes awesome.

Because of a change in the org, Ive needed to set up a new table with a lot of that data in the 8000 names. So I simply duplicated the table. Dead simple.

The link field that links from the Duplicate table to the organisations still works, I can still pick the orgs they belong to however it doesnt appear to be bidirectional and of course the orgs table hasnt created the "links to the new table/list" that you get when you do this yourself and not duplicated.

Is there a way to fix that and create a linked field at the other end that shows the people in the duplicated table that are linked to the orgs?

So you have a "Names 1" table that's linked to "Organizations", and you've now duplicated "Names 1" and have "Names 2"

You're saying that now when you modify "Names 2" and update the "Organizations" they're linked to, you want the records in "Names 1" to be linked to the same ones as well, and vice versa?

If so, try:
1. Create a field that will combine the values of the linked fields to "Names 1" and "Names 2" in the "Organizations" table
2. Create a field that will check whether the values of the two linked fields matches the value from the field in step 1
3. Create  an automation that will trigger based on the output of the field from step 2, and make it's action to paste the values of the field from step 1 into both of the linked fields

Sorry - I didnt describe it well.  Forget names one exists after the duplication. Names 2 now exists and has the links TO the organisaitons table (as in, i pick a field in the names 2 list that links to the organisaions table (a different table that was linked to name 1) . . but at the other end, there isnt the normal field that is created when you connect a table TO a table. So it's not automating backwards and backlinking :

Hmm, that doesn't seem right.  It should automatically backlink in the Organizations table.  Could you select a record where this is an issue and provide:
1. A screenshot of the "Organizations" table with the two linked fields to "Names 1" and "Names 2" with the selected record in the view
2. A screenshot of the "Names 2" table with the linked field to "Organizations" with the selected record in the view

SOOO I found the problem. When I was connecting the tables it was absolutely creating the linked fields . . . aaaang hiding them.

I also had a syched table I had forgotten I had synched.

Lesson here kiddies, dont drink too much coffee when 'tablin 🙂
