Why can't users group in a grid inside an interface?

Am I missing something or is it not possible for users to group inside an interface when using the grid view? I have filter, sort and search on the front end, but no group. I can only set the grouping as the interface designer. Anyone know how I can add this functionality?

Hi Bill—thanks for surfacing this! Here to confirm that it isn't currently possible to allow your interface users the same grouping abilities afforded to you in this published layout as you would have editing the interface. This is something we're considering eventually supporting, but we don't have a timeline for doing so. I'd love to pass this feedback along to my team as a way we could improve the product further—thanks for raising this to our attention!
