Hey guys,

I have a team that is using the comments in airtable for their communication, where they tag users and user groups. When they tag users the user gets an email notification, but when they are tagged through a user group they do not get an email notification. Is there a way to turn that on?

As a side note, I feel that the comments section needs an overhaul in general.

Thanks!

In Airtable, when you tag individual users in comments, they receive email notifications, but tagging user groups does not trigger email notifications for the group members. Unfortunately, as of now, Airtable does not have a built-in feature to enable email notifications for user groups.

Here are a few workarounds to address this:

  1. Tag Individual Users: Instead of tagging user groups, tag each member of the group individually in the comments. This ensures that each user receives an email notification.

  2. Use a Third-Party Automation Tool: Consider using tools like Zapier or Integromat (Make) to create automations. For example, you could set up an automation that sends an email or notification to the group members when a comment is added or when certain conditions are met.

  3. Set Up a Notification System: If tagging individuals isn’t feasible, you might set up a system where team members regularly check a central table or view for updates. This approach won’t provide email notifications but can help keep everyone informed.

  4. Regular Updates: Use regular updates or status reports to keep everyone in the loop if tagging is used primarily for communication. This could be done through a shared document or a team messaging platform.

These workarounds should help ensure that all relevant team members are notified, even if user group notifications aren’t directly supported in Airtable.
