We have recently migrated our client database from Trello to Airtable in order to keep track of their details and new business opportunities. One helpful integration that we frequently utilised in Trello was sending all comments to Slack so that our entire team was notified. We were wondering if there is any possible way to currently implement this into our Airtable setup? What we are requesting is the ability to send the comments of a record through to Slack via an integration. Currently we are overwriting a comment field in each record to that it is sent to Slack before adding it into the comments section as well. If this feature is currently unavailable, could we request that this be a new feature to be added to Airtable soon?

Here’s a fantastic workaround for this, that I just helped one of my clients integrate into their Airtable base today:

  1. In Slack, install Slack’s Email App. That gives you a special email address that you can send email messages to. Whenever you send a message to that email address, it will automatically add the contents of that email into the Slack channel of your choice.

  2. In Airtable, invite this special email address to become a new collaborator on your base. Limit this collaborator to “read only” access, so you don’t have to pay extra money for this collaborator.

  3. Accept the invitation to collaborate (which was sent to that special email address, so you’ll find the email in Slack), and then sign up for an Airtable account with that email address. That email address is now a collaborator on your Airtable base! You’ll know that you did it correctly, because you can log into Airtable with your special email address, and you’ll see the shared base. (ALSO: Once you sign up for your Airtable account, Airtable will send you another email to verify your email address. Click on the link to verify your email address.)

  4. In your Airtable base, add a collaborator field to your database. A collaborator field is a special type of field that lets you attach collaborators’ names to each record. By default, a collaborator will receive email notifications whenever someone comments on a record that they are a collaborator for! This is exactly what you’re looking for! :slightly_smiling_face:

  5. Then, all you have to do is make sure that you manually attach that new collaborator’s name to every record in your database, and you will get an email notification in Slack every time someone comments on those records.

It’s as simple as that! :slightly_smiling_face:

@ScottWorld I think I can follow your instructions, but how do you add this new collaborator to each record? If we have a static number of records, it wouldn’t be that hard to manually go through and add them, but is there a way to auto-add a person to each new record generated?
