Assistance with Dynamically Creating Fields in Airtable Form

We are currently using Airtable with WATI. We aim to streamline data collection, particularly about crop information and pricing. However, we are facing a specific challenge that we hope the community can help us address.

We are creating an Airtable form where our team members can input data such as the type of crop and its corresponding price.

Scenario: Imagine filling out the form, and they want to add information for more crops than the initial form offers fields for. Instead of having to predefine a specific number of fields for crops, we want users to be able to click a button or use a similar feature to dynamically add fields as they need them.

Questions:

1. Is it possible to dynamically add fields while filling out an Airtable form, or through a user-friendly feature like a button?
2. If not, do you have any recommendations or workarounds for achieving this kind of dynamic field creation within Airtable forms?

This is not possible with Airtable’s forms. You would need to use external form apps to do this.

However, note that even with external apps, your users can’t add/remove fields… they can only add/remove new rows (aka “line items” or “linked records” or “lists”) in your forms.

There are only 3 form apps that I know of that support this feature:

1. Fillout, which natively communicates with Airtable in real time, and gives tons of advanced features that are all Airtable-specific.

2. JotForm is possibly the most feature-rich form software on the Internet. After your forms are submitted in JotForm, you would use Make’s JotForm integrations to send the data to Airtable.

3. Cognito Forms is another fantastic form software. And you can send data from Cognito Forms to Airtable using Make’s Cognito Forms integrations.

There is a small learning curve with Make, which is why I created this basic navigation video to help. I also provide the links to a few other Make training resources there as well.

At miniExtensions, we've created a third-party form that integrates seamlessly with Airtable and allows you to  use a linked record field to add more records to another table with a single submission or enable chain submissions with the same form using previous records as templates:

Form with a Linked Record Field:

Using a form that contains a linked record field, you can permit your users to add multiple records to the linked table in a single submission. For this you just need:

• A new table with a linked record field connected to the table where your records will be stored.
• A miniExtensions form that uses this new table and includes the linked record field.

Submit Another Record, Copy the Last Submission or Use Previous Records as a Template:

Our advanced form supports successive submissions, using the latest submission as a draft for the next record, or prefilling the form with a previous submission as a reusable template. You can enable these options in the Submission Actions section:
