How should I make changes on a Base that is currently in use?

I am a student and currently working on digitalizing and automating the administration for a dance school. The Airtable base is already set up and in use. Now, I want to implement additional features and make adjustments. I am working within the same account that the dance school uses.

How can I create a kind of development environment where I can experiment and test new features, while keeping the current Airtable base active and unchanged? I would like to implement individual features into the active base only after testing.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to proceed?

You can try duplicating the base and making the changes there, and once you're happy with them implement them in production again?  There's new functionality that just came out that allows us to create dev environments, but that's Enterprise only at this time
