Hi, I need to allow interface users to export table data to excel, without giving direct access to the table itself. Is it possible using a script, triggered by a button?

Sorry, I do not know Javascript, so I can't directly answer your question. But there are lots of Javascript experts here who can likely answer your question.
In the meantime, I've got lots of my clients setup to do this in a non-scripting/no-code way by using Make.
They click on a button in Airtable or they run an automation in Airtable that triggers a Make webhook, and then Make either creates a brand new Excel spreadsheet or it adds rows onto an existing Excel spreadsheet using Make’s Excel modules.
You could also automatically export CSV files with Make, which offers its own CSV tools along with searching & upserting tools for Airtable.
I discuss importing and exporting CSV files with Make on this episode of the BuiltOnAir podcast.
There is a small learning curve with Make, which is why I created this basic navigation video to help. I also provide the links to a few other Make training resources there as well.
p.s. If you have a budget for your project and you’d like to hire an expert Airtable consultant to help you with any of this, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consulting — ScottWorld

Excel-Exporter (https://excel-exporter.com/dashboard/app) can do that, and in case of trouble, you can easily contact their team for support.

Hi, So if I understand correctly, that there's no OOTB tool or script to do that without any third party intervention?

One of the many things you can do with csvgetter.com and I have a user who does this. You just simply make a csvgetter.com export link and can use it with the button
