Hello Airtable Support Team,

I have a question regarding permission settings and billing policies in Airtable.

I am currently on the Business Plan.

In the workspace settings, a specific user’s seat is set to Viewer.
However, I was able to assign Editor permissions to this user at the base level, and they are able to edit the base as expected.

I would like clarification on the following points:

  1. Why is it possible to assign Editor permissions at the base level while the user’s seat remains set as Viewer in the workspace?
  2. In this case, does Airtable’s policy ensure that no additional charges are incurred?
  3. Could you confirm whether this behavior is in line with Airtable’s current policy or if it is a system error?

I would appreciate a clear explanation of the policies surrounding this matter.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Hey @ta!

I do not work at Airtable, but hopefully I can shed some light on your situation.

1. The idea is that by default, the user will be Viewer for all newly created bases on such workspace, except that you grant the user wider permissions at a specific base level. The intention seems to be to allow for further flexibility at a more granular level (base level).
2. Unfortunately, you will be charged for the seat as such Airtable user has "edit permissions for at least one base in the workspace". Please see a screenshot of Airtable's FAQs below.
3. This seems to be aligned with Airtable's current policy. As mentioned above, the idea is to provide further flexibility.
