Unfortunately, this is one of the very odd behaviors in Airtable, but note that you don’t need to delete the automation and recreate it. You would just need to have the person “turn off” the automation and then “turn it back on” again.
Then they will become the person who receives the error email notifications (for that automation) from that point forward.
However, the limitation still remains that for each automation, ONLY ONE PERSON in your entire organization can receive the error notifications for that particular automation.
And, as soon as somebody else changes one of the automations in your base, they will then become the new person to receive the error notifications for that particular automation, because they were the last one to click on the “Update” button.
So yes, as you mentioned above, it might be better to switch to an external automation platform which gives you full control over error notification emails.
You mentioned Zapier in your message above, but I would highly recommend using Make's advanced automations & integrations instead of Zapier, because it is much more powerful and much less expensive.
Make gives you complete control over error handling and error notifications.
If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one of the ways that you could instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.
Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable & Make consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable & Make consultant — ScottWorld
Hey @Michael-Zimmer,
Following with Scott’s answer above, I’d suggest you also look into n8n as an ever cheaper (as long as you self-host it) and more powerful alternative to Make.
You can read more about these different softwares (Zapier, Make, and n8n) on this article, to fully understand the differences between them.

Appreciate the response on this all. I’ll have to add some new process and development controls to include Product Owners doing automation “On-Off” actions.
I certainly would love to use Make but this is an organization decision to go with Zapier. Got to do what I can do.
