Instant sort/filter conflict with data entry

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

Can we PLEASE get a fix for this? I do a lot of data entry in Airtable, and it's very challenging to manage record changes with this setup.

The Problem: If you're working in any grid view with a sort or filter applied, Airtable will often try to sort/filter the record currently being edited, before the entry is completed. If you add any text into a field, every character you add to the record will trigger the re-sort/re-filter, regardless of if you're still actively typing.

Suggestion: It would be ideal if Airtable did not recognize a change to the record until the record is "de-selected" (when the user hits "enter", "tab", clicks away, etc.). It's very frustrating to have a cell I'm actively working on move within the view as I'm doing data entry.

Additionally, this change will reduce processing load in Airtable, because it's not constantly trying to reorganize the data with every keystroke. It would be EVEN BETTER if there was a setting on the view level (in base) or in the interface builder that could turn this functionality on/off if there are specific use cases in which you'd want it to function in this way.

You may want to email support@airtable.com with this feature request.

One thing to note is that your record won't actually move away or disappear until you leave that row. So as long as you don't click outside of that row, your record will wait until you are finished editing it.

Another way to avoid this behavior is to expand the record and do your data entry in the expanded view. Then, your record won't move or disappear until you close the expanded view.

Thank you! I really wish Airtable had a Canny board or something to track feature requests and upcoming releases to be able to engage with the team more directly, rather than siloing requests to individuals' email comms. I'll send this over to them, though.

I agree! Transparency and communication from the product team would be much appreciated by every user of Airtable!
