Help: 'Open URL in record' always refreshes page, even if URL is the same interface page

After figuring out how to get the URL for individual sidesheets, and attaching that URL to a button and using the 'Open URL in record' action, the correct sidesheet is opened, but only after refreshing the page.

I realize this is something of a hack to get sidesheets that aren't on the page to open, but has anyone had any luck preventing the page from refreshing, but rather just open the requested sidesheet as usual?
