Paste formatted text from Excel into Long Text field and maintain formatting?

Is it possible to copy formatted text (Italicised in places) from Excel and paste it into a Long Text field (with RTF enabled) and maintain formatting? It would be great not to have to re-italicise hundreds of fields manually when pasting this info in.
