Manually add a line break in a text field?

when adding a new record manually, I can hit enter as many times as I want to add new lines in a text field.

if i go back and edit that text field, I cannot add new lines. Ctrl-Enter, Alt-Enter, Sh-enter all fail to add a new line and just complete the edit.

is there a secret or is this not supported?

I’m not seeing or experiencing what you are experiencing…

here are my 4 attempts: enter, Sh-Enter, Ctrl-Enter, Alt-Enter

each one saves and moves down a row but doesn’t stay in the field and add a new line

perhaps it’s because the field type is “single line of text” (works fine when I change to long text)

doh!

It’s unclear what OS you are using and perhaps other things that could be interfering. Do you have any specific keyboard-enhancing software installed? Is this an iPad? A Chromebook? Android perhaps? Is this a PC? A Mac? Ubunto? What browser are you using?

You should probably take this issue up with Airtable support.

Right, there are 2 different types of text fields: “single line text” and “long text“. Only “long text” supports hitting return.

I assumed you were referring to the long text field type all along because fields of type “single line text” do not allow multiple lines.

I'm experiencing the same thing. When I originally enter a note, I can enter as many line breaks as I want. But when I edit a note, there is no way to add a line break.

I just upgraded to OS Sonoma and I've tried this on Safari and Chrome with the same results. I don't beleive this was an issue with my previous OS.
