New: Trigger automations with emails to find insights in your inbox

Hey Airtable community!

As of today, you can now trigger automations when you receive an email, so you can turn your inbox into insights! 🎉

You can use automations to extract data such as the content, sender, and even attachments. Then use AI and automations to analyze and take action on that data.

This highly-requested feature allows you to turn unstructured email content into a clean data set that your organization can actually use to power workflows and make decisions.

For example, product teams constantly receive valuable customer feedback over email. But what happens to it? Is the same request being received from several customers? Did anyone close the loop? Now, you can track feedback received via email, extract insights, and close the loop.

How does it work?

  • Check out the support article to learn more about how to set up the new email trigger.

When is this rolling out?

  • It’s live now!

What plans is this rolling out to?

  • Business and Enterprise Scale.

We want your feedback!

  • As always, your input is invaluable to us. Please share your thoughts, questions, and ideas about this new capability in the comments. We're excited to see how you leverage linked records in your synced tables to do even greater things with Airtable!

Excellent news!
This will massively simplify processes for several of my clients.
Looking forward to trying this out.

Edit:
Seems to work great!
Note to anyone trying this out, you need to send a test email to the trigger in order to use many of the outputs of the trigger in the setup.
Maybe that's obvious to some people but it wasn't to me.

This sounds absolutely awesome, but can we poor Team plan peons get access to these useful features too?

Is it possible to connect to a Google account?

In response to @DisraeliGears01:

Yes, I totally agree with you that it would be incredible if this was available on the Teams plan!

In the meantime, you can get this exact same functionality — plus significantly more features — by using Make’s custom mailhooks in conjunction with Airtable.

In response to @SSSS:

Similar answer for you. You can use Make’s Gmail modules to connect to a Google account and watch for incoming Gmail messages.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one of the ways that you could instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable

I also give live demonstrations of how to use Make in many of my Airtable podcast appearances.

For example, in this video, I show how to work with Airtable arrays in Make, which would be important to learn if you want to work with email attachments in Make.

Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld
