Hey all,

I would like to generate a document using a template that uses formulas to change the data in that document, and then attach that to a contract (populated with information from Airtable also) which is then sent for e-signature.

Any thoughts on how to accomplish this?

2025 Update:

One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways of doing this is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable.

I show how to do this step-by-step on this Airtable podcast episode:

Fillout also offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to update Airtable records using a formaccept payments on forms, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a form, control access to a form via SSO or email domains or a list of email addresses stored in Airtable, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, connect a single form to dozens of external apps simultaneously, add CAPTCHAs to your form, and much more.

Here’s another podcast episode where I show off a few more of the advanced features of Fillout:

Alternatively, you can use any eSignature platform that you’d like, and automate it with Make’s advanced automations & integrations,

For example, you can automate the communication between eSignatures.com and Airtable by using Make’s eSignatures integrations along with Make’s Airtable integrations.

But you can choose from any eSignature platform that you would like, and automate it with Make.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one of the ways that you could instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.

Hope this helps!

Original answer, which still works as well:

Sure, this is pretty straightforward to accomplish by using Make’s automations and integrations for Airtable, which is an external automation & integration tool.

It would be a relatively simple 3-step process:

1. Generate the document in PDF format. You can pick any document creation software that you'd like. One of the most popular ones for Airtable is Documint, but there are tons more, such as DocsAutomator. You can even use plain old fashioned Google Docs or Microsoft Word as well, and you can automate those with Make.

2. Send it to an eSignature platform for signature. (Again, you would use Make for this.) You would send that document to any e-signature platform of your choice. The screenshot below shows a bunch that popped up when I searched for the word "sign" on Make. (See screenshot below.) I prefer using eSignatures.io, because it is very inexpensive & it is very simple to use.

3. Email the people who need to sign it and/or store the document in Airtable. This can also be automated in Make. (In fact, the eSignature platform will probably automatically email the people when you send the document there.)

So the entire 3-step process would be completely automated & pieced together by Make.

There is a small learning curve with Make, which is why I created this basic navigation video to help. I also provide the links to a few other Make training resources there as well.

Jotform has a document signing product that might help; not too sure whether it can populate said document with data from Airtable tho

That would not work because JotForm Sign cannot currently be automated in any way.

Hi!

Try the Plumsail Documents extension for Airtable. Using the application as a connector, you can use it to fill the template with data from Airtable. Select the outgoing format of the received file (including PDF) and determine the method of delivery, including sending it for signature.

Hi! You can easily create documents from Airtable by using an Excel template to fill in data. Use an application like Plumsail Documents that supports this format and can automate the creation and sending of the document to DocuSign for an electronic signature. Once the document is signed, use Make (Integromat) to return it back to Airtable. The article how to use Airtable DocuSign integration. provides a detailed step-by-step guide on how to set up this integration, including all the necessary settings for seamless document automation and e-signature workflow.

Alternatively, You can use typeflow.us for generating pdf based on Airtable data. We use Google Docs as template. We offer a lifetime plan currently at 150$. This plan lets you generate as many pdf as needed.
