Unfortunately, Airtable's Page Designer is very limited and can’t be automated in any way, so you won’t be able to get what you’re looking for with Page Designer.
Instead, here are 4 popular solutions for generating documents from Airtable that can do what you’re looking to do:
- DocuMint — the original document creation app for Airtable. Creates PDF files.
- DocsAutomator — creates Google Docs documents or PDF files.
- Make’s integrations — which can be integrated with any document-creation app of your choosing, even something as simple as custom Microsoft Word documents.
If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one way that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.
- Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable — which offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s forms don’t offer, such as the ability to automatically generate custom PDF files from a form submission.
I show off this feature on this Airtable podcast episode: Using Fillout to create an eSignature approval process with PDF file creation.
Hope this helps!

Hi! Currently, Page Designer doesn't support automation. However, you can use Automations with other extensions to generate documents from Airtable tables. Set the form submission as a trigger, add a script action, and configure it to run the extension. Each time the form is submitted, the script will generate a document.
For document generation, consider Plumsail Documents, which supports various templates and can automatically send the document to recipients and attach it to the record. For more details on setting this up, check article Create and manage documents in Airtable Interfaces and Automations
If you're still looking for a solution, Typeflow can help you easily generate PDFs from Airtable data using Google Docs templates. It's straightforward and efficient.
Feel free to give it a try, and I'd love to hear your feedback! I'm also offering a lifetime plan for early users at just $100.
Feel free to ping me if you're interested or have any questions.
Page Designer cannot be automated in any way.
To automate the process of creating a PDF, emailing the PDF, and/or attaching the PDF into an attachment field, you would need to use external tools to do this.
Here are a few great tools:
1. DocuMint is a popular tool to automate the creation of PDFs from Airtable.
2. DocsAutomator is another popular one.
3. However, you can use any external document-creation app or any PDF-creation app that you would like to use (even something as simple as Microsoft Word or Google Docs), and completely automate it with Make’s advanced automations and integrations.
There can be a bit of a learning curve with Make, which is why I created this basic navigation video for Make, along with providing the link to Make’s free training courses.
