Hello,

We have went over the automations rate for airtable on business plan 100k. However, there appears no easy way to upgrade and a base that runs an app stuck with no ability to resolve. We’ve sent support email but no response yet.

Any solutions or way to get in touch with airtable so we can resolve this issue. This is costing us big. No response from their sales form either yet.

@JamesM12345

Unfortunately, Airtable does not offer any way to pay for more automation runs in a month, so you have 4 key options here:

  1. Probably your best option is to do what you have already done — send an email to support@airtable.com and ask them to reset your automation run limit for the month.
  1. Automation runs are based on the workspace, so you could move your base to a new workspace, but then you’d be paying for 2 workspaces because Airtable billing is based on the workspace.
  1. Long-term option: You could upgrade to the Enterprise Plan (as you mentioned) to get more automation runs on a monthly basis, but you will have to wait for a long time for the sales team to get back to you on that, so that’s a process that could take weeks or months. That has been a longstanding complaint in the Airtable community — that the Enterprise Sales Team is very unresponsive.
  1. In the meantime, I would highly recommend what I recommend to all Airtable customers, which is to outsource as many of your automations as possible to Make’s advanced automations & integrations for Airtable.

Make has absolutely no limits on automation runs, because you can always pay for more automation runs. And Make is infinitely more powerful & customizable & connectable than Airtable’s automations.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread.

For example, here is one of the ways that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable, although note that if you use my scripting approach, you will still be using Airtable’s automations — so your best bet is to create a button or a link in Airtable that DIRECTLY triggers your custom webhook in Make (instead of using my script to trigger your custom webhook).

You can also have your automations trigger on a schedule as well.

I also give live demonstrations of how to use Make in many of my Airtable podcast appearances. For example, in this video, I show how to work with Airtable arrays in Make.

Hope this helps!

If you’re really desperate you could try creating a new workspace with a new automation limit and moving the base there instead?  I’m not sure how this would work though and so would highly recommend trying this with a small test base first to see what happens and whether everything works the way you expect

---

Out of curiosity may I know what automations you’re running that caused this and whether you think that might need looking in to?  Just wondering if there’s anything that can be restructured or moved onto a different service (e.g. a data pull or something) that might help with mitigating this

I do free half hour calls and would be happy to have a chat to see whether there’s anything we could improve on if you’d like

Hey @JamesM12345,

I’m sorry to hear about that (as context for future readers: Airtable Automation Limits).

You did great by reaching out to support, hopefully they will be able to reset the count. However, unfortunately that might take a couple of days -given the back and forth. Make sure to send over Workspace ID (and maybe Base ID) to make it easier for them.

Re: Using Make as suggested by Scott above -or other automation tool, I would highly suggest this. Specially if you do not have time senstivie automations (e.g. automations that need to get triggered immediately as soon as certain conditions are met in Airtable).
