I know it ha been discussed MANY times, and I even clicked on the “contact developers” to submit a question/suggestion to see if they ever think this will fully integrate with Airtable…. aka upload the PDF upon a trigger via automations, or just a column that IS the page designer. Can anyone at Airtable make this happen? It seems that Airtable is the developer, and with all the chatter here, this one small thing would make a huge difference to so many. Currently the only options are to use external PDF creation tools, which is beyond frustrating when you’ve created the perfect PDF page and all you need to do is link it to the column. The fact that someone can’t even click a link to view the PDF, ugh. Anyway, maybe if enough people “like” this, it can get to the Developer and they can actually follow though. With all the AI and automation of today, I know this is possible! Please help us get there.

It is a bit unclear, but page designer is an external javascript app that loads inside Airtable Extensions. That is same as other apps available in extensions.

Airtable allows you to view and download pdf easily in Interfaces.

And page designer have other issues, like it doesn’t allow you to have more than X rows if you are pulling data from a linked table, it cuts off the records. Nested records more than 1 level deep is impossible.

I don’t think Airtable will dedicate any resources to this issue simply because there’s plenty of solutions already on the market.

@Jasmine_Ruth1

Yeah, sadly, it seems like Page Designer was never “fully developed” by Airtable, and there haven’t been any major improvements to it since I started doing Airtable consulting in 2018.

Here is just a partial list of the limitations with Page Designer:

  • Page Designer can’t be automated in any way.
  • Page Designer can’t create PDF files on its own — you need to use your computer’s print or PDF functions for that.
  • Page Designer doesn’t yet work in interfaces (but maybe it will at some point in 2026).
  • Page Designer can’t insert documents into attachment fields. You have to do this manually.
  • Page Designer can’t effectively create documents that are more than 1 page in length.
  • Page Designer layouts can’t be copied to other tables or bases.

If you want to automate the process of creating a PDF file and automatically attach the PDF file to the record in Airtable, or if you want to generate multi-page PDF files from Airtable, or if you want to generate PDF files from interfaces, you would need to turn to a 3rd-party app for that.

Here are a few popular 3rd-party apps for automatically generating PDF documents from Airtable:

  1. DocuMint — the original document creation app for Airtable. Creates PDF files.

  2. DocsAutomator — creates Google Docs documents or PDF files.

  3. Make’s integrations — which can be integrated with any document-creation app of your choosing, even something as simple as custom Microsoft Word documents.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one way that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.

  4. Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable — Fillout lets you automatically generate custom PDF files from a form submission.

I show off this feature on this Airtable podcast episode:Using Fillout to create an eSignature approval process with PDF file creation.

  5. Typeflow.us is another newer entry to the field as well. I haven’t used this app yet, but I will be checking this one out in the future.

Hope this helps!
