Hello, I have a feature request for the form usage. I would like to have the possibility to have dynamic response in a field depending on the value provided in a previous fields. For instance if My Main category is "Product" selected from my drop down list, I would like to have only subcategories linked to "Product" available in my second drop down list. How could I do it ?

Ah for feature requests you’ll want to use this feature request form:

As a workaround, try using Fillout.com, should be able to do what you need

Edit:

Hm, reading Scott’s message made me think about this more.  You mention your subcategories are linked, so when you say ‘Dropdown list’, are you referring to a linked field?  If so, you’re able to do this on a paid plan with dynamic filtering like Scott mentioned: https://support.airtable.com/docs/dynamic-filtering-in-linked-record-fields

For example, I’ve set up a base here for you to check out.  Here’s my data:

And here’s what the form ends up looking like:

@antoine.roquet

That is not possible with single-select fields, but you could do that by changing both of your fields into linked record fields, and then you could use Airtable’s dynamic filtering feature.

However, Airtable has made this very complicated to setup, and it has to be setup for your ENTIRE BASE — not just the form itself. So anywhere you see those fields in Airtable, they will have the dynamic behavior attached to it. And as mentioned above, BOTH of your fields will need to be linked record fields.

Instead, your much easier & much better option for doing this is to use Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable.

Fillout makes the setup process MUCH easier than Airtable, and you would only need to turn your second field into a linked record field (instead of both fields). And your linked record field can work differently on your Fillout form than how it works in your base.

You can read more about this feature here: How to select and filter Airtable linked records in a dropdown.

Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to dynamically filter a linked record field on a formupdate Airtable records using a formcreate custom PDF files from a form submissionaccept payments on formspre-fetch dynamic data from an Airtable record, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a form, add a login page to your form, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, connect a single form to dozens of external apps simultaneously, add CAPTCHAs to your form, and much more.

I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on these 2 Airtable podcast episodes:

Hope this helps!

Hello @antoine.roquet,

Yes, this is not currently possible in Airtable forms.

But you can use Plumsail Forms to create cascading drop-downs using Airtable formulas. Please find instructions with examples in the article: How to filter linked record fields in Airtable forms.

Actually, this feature is already available in Airtable’s forms, as I outlined in my post above.

In Plumsail Forms, you can filter linked records by any type of fields: single select, text, number.

Yes, that is the same feature that Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable offers as well.

Within Airtable, linked record fields can only be filtered by other linked record fields.
