Hello !

this might sound strange but I'm encoutering issues while wanting to allow users to edit or add new records to a list view in an interface.

Sometimes the toggle button to allow this just doesnt exist ... this is quite frustrating and I haven't figured out the way out of this.

Please help 🙂

Hey!

Please note that you can either click on the group holding the list view (as done on the image attached on your question), or on the list view itself. See differences below, paying attention to the section with blue borders (on click).

At Group level, you would click on the title of the group for example -see image below: You can toggle on "Add records through a form", which will show the button on the top right corner of the group, to create a new record.

At a list view you would click on the actual list -see image below: You can toggle on "Add/delete records inline", which will  show the small "add campaign" button (format similar to text actually) below the last record on the list (only record is Campaign XYZ on this example).

I believe this should solve the issue!

Hello Mike thanks for responding

I've noted the group vs. list view. But still i don't have the same user actions possibilities to toggle. I only have the option ''Click into record details'' available. Please see screenshot.

Is there any general interface setting that i need to update ?

I've tried to duplicate the interface / the page / the block but there's nothing to do, the toggle button allowing to create new records in line or edit them is missing 😞

Hi @oVo_Team and @Mike_AutomaticN ! One year later I’m facing the same limitation here. Were you able to solve this?
When I add a list view inside a group in a dashboard page, it only displays the following User actions:

  • Edit records inline
  • Add/delete records inline
  • Click into record details

I believe if you’re using the Dashboard layout the only buttons you have access to are on the Group level and the actions are:

  1. Go to Interface page
  2. Go to external URL

May I know which button you’re trying to add and what layout you’re using?

Hi Adam @TheTimeSavingCo, Thanks for replying!

Yes, that’s it. My actual question was whether those two were the only buttons in the Dashboard layout.

I was trying to add a button like ‘Create new records through a form’. The solutions I thought of were:

  1. Adding a button with an external URL and linking to the form. But that’s far from ideal, since the form opens in a new tab or, even worse, redirects the page.

  2. Keeping the numbers, charts, and even the timeline on the Dashboard page, while adding a new List page in the interface to manage it.

But neither of these really achieve what we’re aiming for. Do you have any other suggestions?

Ahh, I just bite the bullet and do the open in new tab thing I’m afraid.  I take it you don’t want them creating records inline because you want to set required fields and stuff?

Well, they could create records inline, but when I enable it and click on the + Add record button at the bottom of the list, the new record disappears right away because of the date filter — before we even have the chance to fill it out. I guess if I add a new condition to display records where Start Date and Due Date are empty, that would fix the issue. Although now that you’ve mentioned the required fields, I think opening the form in a new tab might be the better option to avoid people forgetting to fill in important data. Thanks a lot for the exchange of ideas!

Hey @AlineW,

Yes if you want required fields then you would def want to go with forms.
Else, if you’d be ok with just flagging records with missing info, you can use Coloring (airtable native) or TamperMonkey script.

I do not know exactly how your filters are set up, but you could set Start Date and Due Date to Today by default in order to make sure to have them shown on your interface! Then you would need to update accordingly.
