So I have discovered that automating a PDF into an attachment field is not possible from page designer at the moment. I was curious if anyone has found a way to view their page designer block in an interface? If not I will have to go back to the "data" side of the base and move it over to an attachment field and then go back into the interface. I think if I could just view the page designer in an interface I could screenshot the page and drop it into an attachment field without leaving the interface.

I strongly agree that we need this feature!

I do this using Documint.me it saves your pdf to an attachment field. You can do that with a button in interface. Then I created another button to send an email using automations and attaching the pdf from the attachment field.

Me too! We just started using Interfaces and LOVE it, but this feature is desperately needed.

Not really a page designer element, but there's a workaround using a hidden interface in your app. Just style the interface the way you want and make a button to go to that interface. Users can print that page directly in the interface. Just the best approximation I could find without having to give users permission to the base data.

Hey Carlos!

This is a great work around for the time being. It does limit some automation and design capabilities but would work. A way to automate a PDF would be ideal and hopefully is coming in the near future as this is a bottle neck for invoicing/proposing jobs in my opinion.

Definitely worth having. Page designer in interfaces is a game changer.

It just seems so silly. They have built an interface inside the data "Page Designer" then rolled out an interface that doesn't support the ONLY pdf format available through the program.  The fact that Mini extensions had a solution for this right as it rolls out is interesting. Maybe Airtable should purchase their dev team as they seem to understand real problems people have.

Any updates on this? We're using documint however its costs a fortune and we're now exceeding the monthly limits of their top level (3,000 documents a month)...

Any News here? Access to PageDesigner from Interface is high needed. 😞

Yes! I agree 100%

Any updates on that topic? It would be awesome to have Page Designer in the Interfaces

Would love Page Designer to feature within interfaces.

Any news here? Please add this Feature 😞

Did this ever happen?  Seems like a critical feature when trying to run a business.

I cannot seem to find how to make a hidden interface.

To hide an interface, you have to go into “Edit Pages” mode, and then you’ll need to click on the word “Pages” near the upper left corner of the screen.

In the new left margin panel that appears, you can hover over any interface page and click on the button that says “Hide from Navigation”.

Regarding using Page Designer (and other extensions) in interfaces, extensions are not yet available in interfaces. But that is coming soon to Airtable — hopefully by the end of the year.

Although in general, Airtable's Page Designer is very limited, because it can’t be automated and it can only “effectively” print single-page documents. It also doesn’t have any native ability to create PDF files or insert PDF files into attachment fields. All of that stuff needs to be done manually, and you need to use the PDF-creation capabilities of your computer.

Instead of Page Designer, here are 4 of the most popular solutions for automatically generating documents from Airtable, and these apps will automatically insert those documents into attachment fields for you. Then, you can also email those PDF files through automations as well:

  1. DocuMint — the original document creation app for Airtable. Creates PDF files.
  1. DocsAutomator — creates Google Docs documents or PDF files.
  1. Make’s integrations — which can be integrated with any document-creation app of your choosing, even something as simple as custom Microsoft Word documents.

If you’ve never used Make before, I’ve assembled a bunch of Make training resources in this thread. For example, here is one way that you can instantly trigger a Make automation from Airtable.
  1. Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable — which offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s forms don’t offer, such as the ability to automatically generate custom PDF files from a form submission.

I show off this feature on this Airtable podcast episode:

Using Fillout to create an eSignature approval process with PDF file creation.

Hope this helps!

Great list. I would add two things:

  1. Just get the url of the page designer when open and link to that with a button to your interface. You can create user preference table and then use a lookup field with the current user option to filter records to print.  Set the default view to filter for this check / boolean value that is linked by a formula to the current user. The down side is that any user will need access to your tables so they could make a mess if they start to play around with the table and field names. I’ve been doing as a quick fix. The user selects a button and then can print out records specific records.
  2. Use google sheets. The issue with  alot of these pdf creators is that you can’t edit anything. You’ll need a lot of conditional logic to deal with edge cases and that is often beyond the capabilities of some of these tools. If you go the google sheets route I recommended using AI to code this. I used Make at first and it ended up costing me a couple of dollars per spreadsheet.

Documint works great. Its just another cost to add. Its also not super intuitive to use, but I was able to get everything done I needed to. Their support is great. I just didn’t want to pay the extra fee and I also noticed that I need to be able to edit the invoice and spreadsheets, so google sheets was a better fit for me.
