Great point Howie. I will create a show and tell thread!

Mike, I learn quick! Are you hiring?

Jason - Not hiring right now, but it’s only a matter of time

Hey there–I’m with Airtable. We’ve talked to many users who have databases with even greater complexity than this (i.e. 30+ tables, with multiple relationships between each table). It does seem like you could pretty easily implement this in Airtable, as well as create views to filter and show things maintenance records from 6 months ago from a specific machine. As Mike suggested, I would personally put all your equipment records into a single table, with a “type” dropdown field.

WOW. And I thought my 6 tables for product life cycle management within an NPI cycle was something. :kissing:

This would be great. One thing I use airtable for is our books. Secondly is pantry items. We also use it to inventory medications, first aid supplies, video games, and movies or music. Having a more open database that populates the information scanned on barcode would be invaluable. Right now, I have to use third party programs, export then import the information to airtable.

In addition to barcode and QR, would you ever consider OCR?

I’d love to use Airtable to take stock of the 500 cars I have in my dealership, and if the camera scanner had OCR built in as well as barcodes and QR, I’d be able to zap in the license plates.

Hello, this is awesome! I totally understand how AirTable uses the barcodes, but how are you generating and printing them?

I’ll tell you what I want to do… I want to print about 50 barcodes labels, each pre-associated to a nearly blank asset record. A technician sticks it to the asset, and then scans it, and then can enter the asset details, and then add some pictures. When done, he can move to the next asset, wash, rinse, repeat. From back in the office, I can see these details as they come in real-time, and even make adjustments as needed.

Thoughts?

Hi everyone, I’d like to track inventory, so I would scan a product in and when I sell it I would scan it out via barcode. can someone show me quickly how to do this I do have a base created with some products and barcodes and I am using it to track expiration dates, but it is flat. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

First of all I love the barcode scanner!

One suggestion, though. It would be nice if the scenner could read inverse barcodes, that is, white bars on a black background. Using inverse barcodes would allow our codes to blend into the equipment more discreetly.

Thanks!

I was hoping to build a base with a barcode field, which I would populate with company ID numbers using our own barcoded ID badges. I got a ways in when I realized that our company ID’s cannot be scanned with the AT scanner. I believe our barcodes are written in CODABAR format - any chance of adding support for this barcode type?
Thanks for considering!

B

Thanks Airtable - we’ve been using you for maybe 18 months and are really enjoying your service. However we - and all our clients in developing countries - are Android guys, not iPhone guys. On this note a) is the Barcode functionality available in the android app (if so, I missed it) and b) if not, can we expect it soon? Thanks, D

Hey there! I feel pretty qualified to answer this, as one of the Airtable office’s Android users. :slightly_smiling_face: The barcode functionality does work on the Airtable Android app! You just need to have an additional dedicated barcode-reading app installed on your phone as well.

First, set up a barcode field. Then, when you tap the barcode scan button while in Airtable (the little icon with the camera above a barcode), it’ll ask you if you want to install Barcode Scanner.

If you tap yes, it’ll bring you to the Google Play Store. Once Barcode Scanner is installed, you can use it directly from within Airtable.

OK, thank you for letting me know Katherine - that is appreciated!

If you would like your team to scan a QR code and lookup an Airtable record, we built a 2-steps solution for this:

  1. Generate a QR code for every record
  1. Lookup those records with our scanner
