When copying and pasting from a spreadsheet into an empty base, there’s a prompt that appears asking if you’d like to expand the number of columns.
I think there should also be a checkbox here that can be ticked that about whether the table being pasted has a header.
If selected, it would take the top row and change the field names instead of putting the header cells into the first record.
