It takes up room and looks bad!
PLEASE allow us to completely hide stacks in Kanban. I have WAY TOO MANY categories just to collapse them. I have got to be able to create views that only show certain stacks per view. Is there any chance this is in the pipeline???
If we cannot completely hide stacks, a second option would be to re-order the stacks in a particular view without it reordering the categories everywhere.
Please, please, please! Enable hiding of stacks through filtering in the Kanban view. It makes it impossible to use when you have too many selector fields to count. It’s so infuriating I wrote a poem about it.
Kanban, Kanban, what to do with you…
Unable to hide stacks out of view.
It makes me so mad,
I’m forced to right about it in my note pad.
Someday in the not too distant future I hope,
for Airtable’s sake and longevity, that this feature, so within grasp,
is implemented, and fast!

The ability to completely hide stacks would be an absolute game changer, I use airtable for pretty much every aspect of the business and this is definitely my Achilles heel, having to collapse unused or no longer required stacks is great but not a solution that makes the Kanban view viable enough, the collapsed stacks plus the uncategorised stack just take up too much room
Same on this request. My current workaround is to set up a collapsed stack and filter out the records. So even if the stack is un-collapsed, it’s empty. Just my current workaround, but an actual hide would be preferred.
+1: ability to hide stacks including “Uncategorized” in an interface similar to the Hide Columns chooser
+1: Ability to set “auto-hide stacks” based on filter if a filter is applied.
One of the top stumbling blocks to being able to more widely deploy Airtable within businesses is to be able to completely remove anything an end user does not need to see, question, or have cluttering up their view.
And, if I may, a sidebar +1 to resize Kanban column widths - even if it’s all of tham tied together it would help.
Thank you!
Wow… since March 2017 and this still hasn’t been sorted? Where is the dev team?
Out to a very long lunch @Luke_Broadhurst…
I can understand why they don’t want to make an option for “Uncategorized” to become invisible. What if you wanted to move something to it? You might get confused if it wasn’t visible.
But in a shared view, I can’t understand why it would not be hidden by default if empty, or at least have a toggle to allow that to happen. It serves no purpose in a shared view other than to confuse users who access that view.
Airtable, whyy? You literally run into this issue the moment you create your first Kanban view. How is that good for anyone? Please allow hiding, either manually, by a filter.
Agree that hiding empty by default is not great, since you would not be able to move things into an empty slot.
Yes, agreed. The uncategorized column looks terrible
Hi everyone! We’ve rolled out some improvements to our kanban view which address some of the feedback given in the community forum (and in other places).
Kanban cards will now only display fields that have values, making them more compact. For example, records without attachments won’t have a cover field.
You can now also collapse stacks! If you don’t need to see a specific stack, just click on the “collapse stack” option in the stack’s menu, or click the collapse button at the bottom of the stack. (For those of you who wanted to hide the uncategorized field, this is the best way to get it out of sight and out of mind.) Note that you can still drag and drop a card onto a collapsed stack!
HI Katherine,
Yes, I can collapse but still when I share with external stakeholders it appears uncollapsed and is a terrible user experience. You should just remove or hide the uncategorized when there is no records there
Just realized this is still unavailable 4.5 years later.
+1 for removing the uncategorised column! it goes against the functional purpose of a kanban board!
@Katherine_Duh is there any update on this? its been very consistently requested for many years!

Adding my voice for change here. Uncategorized should be something we can hide, and it also shouldn’t show if there are no records in the stack. heck, probably it shouldn’t even exist—
Wow. No Airtable response to this thread for over a year. I would love to see this too. Assumed it was a setting I was missing
Still no hide functionality. Pathetic they can’t add such a simple and highly requested feature.
Absolute joke! Still no fix. Why can’t I just delete or completely hide it? So strange and unnecessary. Renders the Kansan view completely useless for my work.
And at least allow uncategorized to go sidewise on IPad Pro. Not sure why we can’t get a response from developers. . .
The improvements look good, I have some more suggestions:
- Save the collapsed/uncollapsed state as part of the share link (I want to share a portion of the stacks with clients but will get responses like “there’s loads in here what am I looking at”).
- Allow us to customise what’s shown in the card, what’s shown in the pop up, and what’s hidden altogether (my current cards are too long and it makes the Kanban much harder to use)
- Fit the title! Or at least give it two lines.
- Reduce spacing (others have pointed it out, there’s a LOT of whitespace).
- Give us the option to hide stacks, not just minimize (also include this in the shared link).
Good work so far though
Agree with everything Jamie said.
The ability to filter and customize the Kanban view (including the columns themselves) seems like such a no-brainer. Would love to at least understand why this hasn’t been addressed in nearly five years.
Is it a technical challenge? A little hard to believe – if columns can be collapsed, surely they can be hidden.
Is there something in Kanban philosophy we’re all missing that says you must have the Uncategorized column and it must be to the left of everything?
Interestingly: Asana has the exact same problem. You can move sections around, but can’t hide them. Wonder if they’re all working from the same codebase

This made me laugh so hard! I don’t mean to give anyone a hard time - but five years into a conversation about the inability to rename or delete the “uncategorized” column has produced some cracking banter.
+1 for hiding uncategorized AND being able to hide columns/lists by filtering that status (or category). Is anyone at Airtable going to let us know if this is ever going to happen?
Hello??? When will you ship the hide stacks feature???. It’s been 5 years!!!
Airtable guys and gals, please listen to your users, 5 years later its still not too late…
Please Airtable team can you add the ability hide/filter out uncategorized. It’s such a crucial feature.
