I’d like to create a Layout in Page designer and use that same layout for multiple tables inside the same Base. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Jake

No, there does not appear to be a way to do this - and seemingly for good reason. Unless you had two identical tables that you wanted to share the layout between, Airtable would not know which fields from the second table to map to the fields you put into the page design from the first table.

If you design a page for a “People” table that has fields for:

  • Name

  • Age

  • Email

and wanted to duplicate the page design for a “Company” table that has fields for:

  • Name

  • Location

  • Trade

Airtable will not know where to put data from the “Location” and “Trade” fields. So Airtable’s current UX solution is that you need to build a new design for each table that you want to represent in the Page Designer.

Fair Enough, It would be handy to at least be able to create a template for the general layout of the page then I could populate/link the information. No big deal, I have a work around.

Thank you,

Jake

Hi Jake,

Very curious to hear what you may have come up with RE page layout. AT’s form is quite primitive and we’ve been spoiled by the many options offered by the likes of Filemaker.

All best,

Ken

I’d like to +1 @Jake_Tickle 's suggestion. I spent a lot of time putting together a snazzy page in page designer. I can totally re-use it for similar tables. Think the only way I can do it is by replicating the base and repurposing the original table / linking to suit the purpose.

What if you had different tables for months of the year that had the same records (i.e. newsletter signup, purchases, discount code usage), and wanted to create identically formatted monthly reports showcasing different results for the same categories?

If you are able to duplicate tables and their records, you should be able to duplicate the page designer formatting you’ve created, as this takes ages to perfect.

Is there another easy way of creating these monthly reports via Page Designer?

Thanks

Hi @Jake_Tickle I’d be interested to know what you’ve discovered as a work around to duplicate the formatting from one page design to another table? Thanks!

I’m also interested in this feature. I work at a landscape design firm and I would like to reuse the same page designer block for different projects when I create a plant book. The field information would all be the same. Is there an easy copy and paste for this?

Yes, this option is turning into a deal breaker for me. Seems when you go into Setting and then Table dropdown and change Table, fields with the same name should populate the block. Not sure why this is even an option if all fields just disappear??

I want to agree with these comments. I have templates I have built that use different tables in the base for data but have to rebuild every time.

I don’t get Airtable sometimes. You guys say everything should be in one base so it can link, but then don’t allow you to use tools within the base to use the different data in there.

Why can’t I just go in and select a new view or tab and then update the data on the page that doesn’t link.

Create a template document in Google Docs instead of using the Page Designer block. After the template is created, use Zapier to populate the document with data from your Airtable base. You can then copy the Zap and just change the table that it pulls from. Everything else would remain the same. I would then have the same Zap upload the document into your base. Here is how I did it.

There is a lot of things I don’t “Get” about AirTable.

This is one of them.

  • Duplicate a Block

  • Strip out or Anonomize table speciric data.

simple.

The static elements should stay.

Also - why cannot we add graphics directly to a layout?

This is really retrograde for a product with such a high price point.

You mean by drag and drop or something? Because you can add images:

“In the blue sidebar, you’ll see a list of all of the fields in your table, plus a few other types of static elements that you can add to your page (text and image)”

Yes - you can only add images that are in a table.

So I’m forced to make a table only for elements on a page?

Very clunky.

Why can I not simply add images directly to the page?

Also - and I think this is VERY important; if i have a mutlipage text document as attatchement; I need to export each page of that attachement. This allows you to actually build documents.

AirTable has some great feature; and in many ways it seems it is still in BETA

Though they certainly charge enough money!

That’s not true, read my reply.

I don’t understand this.

Some updates on the page designer product roadmap? Would love to have the ability as well to have the ability to copy a layout on page designer, as my tables have different purposes

thanks

I don’t work for Airtable, @Clement_Segal. I’m just a forum user.

I completely agree! I invested a great deal of time and energy building out several templates in the Page Designer block, believing (based on the “Duplicate Block” option I saw) that I would be able to duplicate them to other dashboards and tables once I had finished testing some other elements and settled on an approach for my final table build. Imagine my extreme frustration when I finally reached that point only to find that nothing other than the name of the block was actually duplicated and I was left with a completely blank page to design all over again from scratch (despite having the exact same fields listed in the final table!). 😫

There are so many use case scenarios in which the ability to truly duplicate a page designer block into another dashboard or table would be super helpful! Several have already been listed in this thread, but there’s one more that I think applies across the board, and that is R&D. Even if you drink the Airtable Kool-Aid early on and decide to put absolutely everything into a single table, there will still be times when you need to do some testing before making changes to your one massive table, and the only way to do that without risking everything (since you have all those eggs in just the one proverbial basket AKA table) is to build and test things in a different table. It is extremely frustrating to then have to completely start over and re-do all the hard work you completed over the course of the testing instead of being able to simply apply the work you’ve already done.

I understand that there will also be cases where the fields that were used to build a template in one table may not be replicated in another table, but it would be so helpful to be able to at least keep the layout and just choose which fields to map to those elements already placed on the page.

Hi Jake,

Exteemely interested about your workaround, or honestly any workaround that allows page designer blocks to be reused/duplicated.

I would just like to copy the layout and font styling instead of having to redraw every element from scratch!

Thank you!

Hello folks, I replied to Jake, but I clarify here.

I’m looking to be able to duplicate a layout in any way, or at least copy non-field elements from one page designer block to another.

Does anyone have a workaround?

Please let me know

Best,

Kilian

Just today was the first time that I ran into needing one of my Page Designer blocks to be used/tested on a different table.

That said, I couldn’t have worded your post any better. I agree 100% with all of it.

I’m now at the point of deciding if it’s worthwhile for me to spend hours to rebuild this whole block to match the existing one exactly, just to see if this new table would serve a useful purpose for a few others to use. :man_facepalming:

Yep. Copied my Invoice table to my Quotations table. They both have links to a Clients and Vendors with the same lookup fields to populated name, address, logo, etc the general info in the header and footer. Need to again design the entire page from scratch for my quotations, whilst most fields are the same name. A pity.

Yes, this very much needed! I really could use this right now.

+100 for Page Designer layout export/copy/duplicate

This is a feature that has been requested for quite some time, I have trouble understanding why it has not been implemented.
