I would love to see basic text formatting options for the long text field. At a minimum: bold and italic formatting would be a huge help.

I would like to use long text fields to store short bios for writers. But without the ability to have italic formatting, I can’t properly format the titles of their books.

The markdown formatting tools available in this Airtable community message editor would be perfect.

Would love some formatting options, at least the basic ones.

Airtable, PLEASE add this.

Putting a Vote in here for Rich Text Editor for Airtable Long Text field. Would be very helpful and open a lot of doors to the functionality of Airtable.

I’m using the Airpress Plugin for Wordpress (this allow you to display airtable fields with shortcodes) and having to manually edit my HTML attributes in my Airtable Fields. IF this could mirror the text editor in Wordpress simply using a shortcode that would be AWESOME!

I also would love some basic formatting options for a field type.

100% agree, we need some minimal formatting ability. It is not possible to properly format a citation or a quote. (I am using AirTable for a Zettelkasten, among other things, and need the ability to capture appropriate references to books and articles)

I was looking to see if I could solve this with a block add-on, and could not. The formatting available in this comment box would be just fine, as one of the earlier commenters said.

If it’s a concern over pricing, then make it available with the first paid level only.
Would make a great product even better.

Markdown would be very very very useful for the long text fields where I’m often including descriptions and other text that has bulleted/numbered lists, etc.

Surprised AirTable hasn’t integrated this yet, definitely bold and italics at least, as well as bullet points would be super super useful

Alright - Airtable, we love you - clearly - but we need to make long text strings bold, italics, etc. I mean if we can conditionally format to produce :stuck_out_tongue: emoji’s, we should also be able to make text italics

The situation - specific use - is that job descriptions are stored using evernote for recruiting and essentially it’s distracting to have to keep separate databases.

Thanks for your consideration.

This is a huge must have for me. I’m hoping to transition over fully to airtable. I organize research for myself and my team via a database and the long notes section allows me to capture key quotes and data that can be searchable. Basic bold, italics, and link formatting is a must have, though markdown support for quotes, bullets, and headers would be even more helpful. I don’t need a WYSIWYG editor - markdown is fine - but nothing is keeping us from full adoption

I’m also here to plead for formatting options in Long Text fields. My company is looking into using Airtable, and the lack of formatting might be a deal breaker for us. Specifically, we need to be able to strikethrough portions of text within a box. Though we might be able to make it work with bold or ital.

Okay, it’s available in Blocks, a pro-plan feature. I see that now. :grinning:

I’m using an airtable to provide step-by-step manual guide to another app. Simple formatting using markdown would be great to see.

The blocks are for the whole base right? I couldn’t have a separate block for each line in a table, could I?

I would love richtext in long text (like I seem to have here on this forum!) I write lesson plans on Airtable and use Kanban format to sort them into units while pulling from a separate tab with my academic standards. The ability to bold and use bullet points would make my notes so much easier to follow.

Some notes can be long and markdown can be very handy.

Markdown is a fine suggestion—and the only way I tend to do my personal writing—but it’s not the easiest thing in terms of user adopt; however, an RTE for “non-technical” users that could be added/removed as a boolean for long text (at minimum) would be a HUGELY POWERFUL feature. This seems like it’s also one of the most common requests from end-users of AirTable. Has anyone heard anything from AirTable? Is there a public roadmap anywhere?

Adding my voice to the crowd here – this would be great to see! Specifically, we (a guitar store) push descriptions of instruments and other gear from Airtable to Reverb.com for online sale. The ability to create a bulleted list for describing features would be incredibly helpful!

I would use this in several tables and I’ve spoken with friends who have signed up for Airtable because of my testimonies and a rich text editor would be a huge feature.

Jumping in here as well. My client wants to send followup emails from Airtable (yes, a very CRMy thing to do) and needs a signature included. I’m hacking together a solution somehow now but would love a better approach down the road (HTML).

@Katherine_Duh #1 use case: copying and pasting formatted copy blocks from Airtable to InDesign (or Word, or whatever). Simple as that. Bold, and ital are essential. Underline and strikethrough are nice to haves.

I just had one of my users complain that Google Sheets can’t do rich text and I soooo wanted to tell them that Airtable could do it, but then I found this thread.

So, ya, +1 for all the above.

+1

This would be great. I currently export HTML or markup from the long text field which I then need to run through something to convert it to rich text.

+1

We’re using AirTable as a PM tool for a creative team. Formatted text is definitely something we could use! Ordered and unordered lists to break down the details of a project is becoming increasingly necessary. A way to copy/paste formatted text to be used in that project with other html compliant programs (word, tinymce in a browser, etc) would also be awesome.

+1 for all of the above. Seems like this idea has a long history. If it isn’t likely to be worked on, it would be great to get a response from the Product team about why and the rationale.

This is what I feel is needed:

  • Header text 1-3
  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Paragraph Breaks
  • Links
  • Bullet / Number Lists
  • Images would be quite nice, too.

So, most of the options that we are given when making comments in this actual forum!
