Thanks to everyone who joined our event today all about small Airtable improvements that make a big difference! We had a lively session packed with practical tips, real-world examples, and plenty of Q&A. Shout out to @Max_Bernstein for hosting and guiding us all through it!

3 Key Takeaways 👀

  • Less is More: Avoid creating too many bases. Airtable works best when you maintain a single source of truth—one base per business function or team is usually enough. Multiple bases can lead to data silos and confusion, so only split bases when absolutely necessary, like for separate business entities or record limits.
  • Linked Records Over Single Selects: One of the most common mistakes is using single select fields where linked records should be used. Linked records unlock the true power of Airtable, allowing you to relate data across tables, avoid duplication, and enable rollups and lookups for deeper insights.
  • Don’t Sleep on Interfaces: Many users skip building interfaces due to the learning curve, but interfaces are essential for controlling permissions, improving user experience, and keeping your data safe. Invest time in learning how to build interfaces—your team will thank you!

This was very informative, thank you! I do have some questions about how my company uses Airtable. I work in casting and we use Airtable for all of our submissions for each season of a show. So we have countless bases and countless people working in those bases. What would be a better way to organize our workflow or just better ways overall to utilize Airtable. We are already using interfaces and that has been a game changer. Thank you for any guidance!

Hey Bridget, thanks so much for your question. Airtable allows non-technical people like you and me access to the superpower of relational databases to establish a true single-source-of-truth. Given your comment about “countless bases and countless people working in those bases”, I question how well you’ve been able to achieve this. Without it you’re going to struggle to utilize Airtable to its full capability. Therefore, I recommend you rebuild your Airtable environment in one base that is developed by a core group of people like yourself.
