Hi guys,
I’m building a interface (with Softr) heavily based on a Tag system done with linked records. I have translated the interface but I don’t know how to translate the tags without creating a different linked table and loosing the link with the original table.
I’ve created agent fields to translate the tags. Any ideas how to display and allow the selection of the translated field and not the primary field of the table? Or any other solutions that can link the translated tags to the original dataset?
Thanks,
Hm could you provide some screenshots of your tables and the issue you’re facing? Would love to help and could use some more details!
Sure thing
Here’s how the application is looking so far https://taskmates.softr.app if you wish to look right into it.. But as you can see in the printscreen, the portuguese section I couldn’t translate the tags cause they are based on linked records and I’d like to keep the data unified.

My database has a lot of linked records

I’ve translated the relevant fields, like the tag name...

But for eg, when Users/Members select a Tag they still have to select the english version because I don’t know how they could select the portuguese translation and still be linked as Members to the table the has the English tag name as the primary field (which I’m using as original version)

Any ideas how to solve this?
Ahh I see, thank you for the explanation. I’ve been thinking about this one for a bit and I couldn’t come up with anything I’m afraid
If it was just about displaying the translated versions based on the user I think we could come up with something using a whole bunch of helper fields, but needing them to be translated as well during selection seems impossible to me; that functionality just doesn’t seem to exist
Really sorry I couldn’t help!
I was thinking about some kind of crazy system whre you’d maintain another table of the same tags where the primary field was the portuguese translation, and then you’d hide / show the field based on the person’s language preferences, but that seems….really over engineered and fragile, you know what I mean?
The data won’t be unified but I guess I have to sacrifice something :/
Hi
I hope you’re well. I’m not a big user of Softr, as I usually make custom front ends, but potentially this might help your use case. There an app called weglot which you can utilize in Softr and it will translate the contents of the site on a UI level, so you could keep your linked records in English, but the website user will see them in Portuguese.
I think it’s worth checking it out before you make any big efforts on creating new tables.
Thanks
