hello my friends

Can i set a role for validation at entering data in a table ?

i have a table that contains promo- codes for a marketing department. Every promo code assigned for a section in sales department. it shouldn’t assign in the table for two sections in sales sales department. is there a role to validate if a colleague is entering a code in the table for department A, a role that says ‘this code is already used for department B’ ? is it available rather than the team filter on duplicates to resolve after that ?

thanks

Hey! The Yellow Bottle sounds like a clever metaphor for that unique promo code ideally, your system should block duplicate entries by validating roles before saving.

Hey @Hady_Shaaban!

We’ll probably need some additional info.

How are submissions for the application of a given promo-code currently occuring?
Through the back end (Airtable’s data layer) creating and editing the new record?
Submitting a Form? If so, by selecting from a drop-down of existing codes? or by manually typing on a free text field?
If through a form, is it an Airtable native form, or a Fillout form?

Initial short answer: If through a form, and if selection is done from a dropdown of existing linked records (from table promo-codes) you can for sure filter those out to show only promo-codes which are not already linked to a department.

Please provide some additional context, and/or feel free to schedule a brief call to go through it together! Happy to help.
