Comma for decimals

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

Hi,

Please allow comma for decimals so I can finally use Airtable as invoicing software.

Thanks

FYI, you can use mypretty-print routines for formatting number and currency fields to specify non-U.S. decimal and thousands separators, maintain a fixed number of decimal places, decimal-align columns, and more.

The only ‘catch’ is that you have to create a formula field using the routines to mirror any number or currency field you would ordinarily expose directly and incorporate this mirrored field in your invoice. (Typically, I keep the pretty-print fields hidden in my day-to-day work views and un-hide them only in the view — or Page Designer Block — I use to invoice.)

I strongly second that request.
I absolutely love Airtable and use it for more and more things, but in French everything uses a comma as decimal separator. So when I export csv files; or cut and paste numbers; or enter with the numeric keypad, I get wrong numbers OR my spreadsheet doesn’t see the values as a number but interprets it as a text. It is very frustrating and involves each time a supplemental step to convert the decimals manually to commas.

It’s possible by creating a new formula field : SUBSTITUTE(CONCATENATE(Temps,""),".",",")

This is STILL a really bummer in airtable. In Europe we have a decimal COMMA “,” button in numpad.

See picture:

When entering numbers, for example “106,20” the input in that cell will be “10602.00”. As you may see, there’s a HUGE possibility to make massive errors.

So, internationalization team in work and make this ASAP!

Hello,
We also strongly need this feature, as this generates lots of errors in our Tables (any decimal figure that we enter with the numeric pad gets discretely multiplied by 100 if we are not extra careful)
Could you add a Checkbox in the preferences settings maybe, at least for the Desktop app? No doubt that would be a huge relief for any non-USA user.
(and that can also make the mini-calendar start on Mondays!)
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Any news on this? Considering of expanding my business. So far I’ve been managing with Airtable with this comma flaw. But when there will be more people using it, cannot risk it. So do I need to find alternative for Airtable?

Hello, we are a fast growing German startup that also uses Airtable extensively. Unfortunately the missing comma feature leads to massive problems for us as well. High potential for errors when manually entering amounts of money. I would be very happy to receive a soon update regarding this issue.

Hi @Johannes_Strobele

I use the currency type and delete the currency symbol - or input ‘IDR’ or any custom text also:

Removing gives commas, add decimal or not is your choice:

Hi Johannes

What are you seeking? The currency comma separator only works for thousands, do you need the decimal to be replace withe comma?

5.00
The above will only work for 1,000.00

I strongly second that request. In Brazil we also use commas as decimal separator. This feature should be a priority for internationalization team in Airtable. Thanks

Is there any news on this feature? It is very troubling that this is being postponed for almost 3 years now.

Airtable Team, please consider moving this idea as a priority. Are you against commas?

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I figured out a way to do this within the current constraints of Airtable. It does require an extra column in your sheet though, so it might not be for everyone.

The short version is, use a string for the column with your comma version of the value, and a formula field that is formatted as a currency with a decimal value, and add the following formula:

VALUE(LEFT(currency_string,FIND(",", currency_string)-1,1))+IF((LEFT(currency_string,FIND(",", currency_string)-1,1)<0),-1,1)*VALUE(RIGHT(currency_string,LEN(currency_string)-FIND(",",currency_string)))/100

The way this works is as follows (you could create separate formula columns with these to understand the process better)

It splits the `currency_string` value up into a part before the comma and after the comma:

integer = LEFT(currency_string,FIND(",", currency_string)-1,1) decimal = RIGHT(currency_string,LEN(currency_string)-FIND(",",currency_string))

 It uses the `VALUE` function to turn them into values:

integer_value = VALUE(integer) decimal_value = VALUE(decimal)/100

 Then, to get the sign, correct, we need to multiply the decimal with `-1` if the integer is below zero:

decimal_value_with_sign = IF(integer_value<0,-1,1)*decimal_value

And finally, we add up the two values:

currency_value = integer_value + decimal_value_with_sign

And We are in 2023 and AirTable team has died. Do They know that AirTable has a forum? I think non-US aren't welcome here

I'd say that everybody needs to send feature request of this weekly to get the message in there...

It's just ridiculous that basic internationalization feature like this is not implemented within first weeks of development for a product like this.

And don't get me wrong, I love everything else about Airtable.
