Question

Search Records from make.com returns *sometimes* the original URL instead of the airtable URL of an image

Hi all,

I have a very strange behaviour with Airtable attachments together with make.com

  • In a loop in make,com, I create 4 images using FLUX.
  • I upload the generated images using "Create a record" module together with some other data (attachment column type)
  • The images are correctly uploaded to the Airtable.
  • Later in the same scenario I use the “Search records” module in order to retrieve the 4 rows with the images
  • The rows and data are retrieved correctly but in *some* cases (this can’t be reproduced) the returned data for one of the images  contains only the ID and the original URL (that I used to upload the image) instead of the Airtable data with the airtable URL and the thumbnails, etc..

See the screenshots:

  • The first one shows the Create Record and the circled field contains the URL for the upload
  • The second shows the wrong result for one image (yellow) and the correct result for another (green)
  • The thirds shows the output bundles which make it obvious that there’s a difference.

Any idea what could cause this?

Best
Sven

Airtable takes a while to process attachments, especially larger attachments.

What this means is that Airtable probably hasn’t finished processing your attachment yet.

I would recommend adding a Make sleep module into your scenario to give Airtable a chance to finish uploading your attachments before accessing them.

Maybe 20 seconds would do the trick.

Hope this helps! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld

Hey Scott,

thanks for the fast reply. I could imagine that Airtable takes some time but that seems not the right explanation in that situation, because in the example in my screenshots it’s the first attachement I uploaded that returns the wrong URL.

he attachments 2, 3, and 4 are correct, and the first one is wrong. Since this is running in a loop and the steps in the loop take about 30 seconds for each iteration, it’s already more than 90 seconds since the first image was uploaded…

Do you have another idea?

Best

Sven

Sorry, I don’t have any other ideas except that maybe the JPEG is corrupt so Airtable couldn’t upload it to its own hosting platform? It seems like an interrupted upload.

Hey Scott,

I don’t think so. I can manually view and download the image from Airtable. It is a really strange behaviour and I have also not other idea what could cause this… :(

It seems like it’s an issue on the Airtable side of things (as opposed to the Make side of things), so you may want to open a support ticket about this issue with support@airtable.com.
