The little i information button is very useful for describing the title of the column header. However I would like to add the same option but for any cell in the base. When viewing the record in vertical view, the option to click the i button should be there as well for someone to explain why the result is that result or what it means.

Right now Records are Displayed via their primary key. But with some data, it is easier to have a separate primary key that can be hidden or not use as the Record Display name.

Hi folks, The product is fantastic from a UI perspective. The ability to enter and manipulate data is top-notch. Even the filtering, grouping, and other sorting mechanisms are great… but they have limitations. My issue is that as I’m trying to build out my “product” I’m continually running into walls on either how the outputs are visualized, or how the data can be organized and output. Simple things like the ability to get a unique list out of a linked column to more complex things like being able to do more with a grid. Because all of our needs are unique, and one company or product can’t possibly solve them all, I’d love to see the ability for users to expand the built-in capabilities. Maybe you allow someone to create a new field type (based on a SQL-like query), or maybe you give folks the ability to design new blocks (so I can extend how the grid block works). Either way, it feels like the next way for Airtable to grow is to allow the user base to build (and share) what it needs. As it stands, I’m out looking at other products right now. So close! Cheers, Al

Short version: Why can’t airtable enforce unique entries for record IDs? This is an important feature and not having it is screwing me up. Long version: Continuing to spend most of my time working around Airtable’s billing policy. I’ve got a table where users will create work chits indicating they’ve worked x volunteer hours doing whatever. I’ve got 20 chit approvers and I really can’t afford to pay for 20 more users who will only doing approvals a few times per year. So, I’ve got a field in the Chit table that concatenates a URL which is then used to generate a link that goes in an email to the approver. When the approver clicks the link, it opens a new form for a new Approved Chit table and prefills the inputs with the values from the corresponding Chit record. I was really hoping to use the autonumber from the chit table to populate the Record ID for the Chit Approval table. My plan was to turn on unique enforcement for the Chit Approval table. But just realized that this feature doesn’t exist. My thinking was that by requiring uniqueness on the Chit Approval table, I would ensure that each chit can only generate one chit approval record. I’m not sure how to work around this one. Any suggestions mightily appreciated. But tired of spending all my energies to work around billing policies and really wishing that there was some policy based on usage rather than number of users.

I almost posted this under ‘Bugs,’ but it’s probably more accurate to describe this as an enhancement request. Increasingly, I’m finding processing bottlenecks and stalls caused by what appears to be over-zealous timeout conditions in whatever library handles input. This is especially obvious during entry of a field that undergoes heavy downstream processing: If I cut-and-paste a value into the field, processing delay is kept to a minimum, but if I enter it by hand, there is a noticeable lag. The problem comes from the downstream routines being called repeatedly against a partial entry. (I’m not sure of the default timeout value, but it’s too short for me to be able to enter a complete word before it fires.¹) As a result, the full suite of routines executes up to LEN(Word) times whenever the user enters ‘Word’. This in turn makes Airtable (and, more importantly, me 😉 ) look bad. Paradoxically, lengthening timeout values on data-forwarding conditions can actually result in not only a perceived but often times an actual performance improvement and a better UX.² I realize Airtable is using underscore.js, but for some reason debounce() doesn’t appear to be working as one would expect. Some cough years ago, I demonstrated this in the context of asynchronous data over an X.25 network. For my troubles I ended up lead on a popular but decidedly kluged-together product, in a demonstration of no good deed going unpunished…

Hi I received an email from Airtable recently, but I cannot find it now, basically it was inviting Airtable users to formally submit feature requests for Beta testing. Does anyone have the contact information from this email? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, MK
