Hello! I'm trying to avoid using Google Forms to keep everything in Airtable, but have some trouble creating the matrix-like question in Airtable Forms (check attached image). Is there a way to create this or is it impossible? Thank you!
That is not possible with Airtable’s forms.
You can only do that with Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable.
You have 3 different ways of doing that:
- Use Fillout’s choice matrix field type.
- Use Fillout’s table field type.
- Use Fillout to create an unlimited number of line items (i.e. linked records)
To see how to do #3 above, check out my video demonstration here:
Fillout is 100% free, and it offers hundreds of features that Airtable’s native forms don’t offer, including the ability to update Airtable records using a form, create custom PDF files from a form submission, accept payments on forms, display Airtable lookup fields on forms, create new linked records on a form, control access to a form via SSO or email domains or a list of email addresses stored in Airtable, perform math or other live calculations on your forms, collect signatures on a form, create multi-page forms with conditional paths, connect a single form to dozens of external apps simultaneously, add CAPTCHAs to your form, and much more.
I show how to use a few of the advanced features of Fillout on this Airtable podcast episode:
Hope this helps!

Scott, you're a busy guy. I am corresponding with you in another AT forum! Glad that you're out there!
I am building a choice matrix question like the one in this thread using fillout.com. The form is integrated to its table in Airtable.
Any suggestions or comments about how/whether the matrix choices will map to the linked Airtable table? Maybe I need to manually create a series of single select fields for each row of the matrix and somehow link them one by one? Seems kinda clunky!
Thanks.
Ha, thank you!
There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong answer, as long as it works for you!
