hey, Linked fields populated by formula !!!!!! I think it's so obvious and self-explanatory for everyone that has ever dealt with relational databases. this is a feature needed for yesterday, it just makes no sense we need to use all those workarounds and automations to get there, and although product is already so advance this is still not available :((

I think it is time for Airtable to add recursive capabilities to data inside a table. I know it is challenging to implement, but the workaround users have been doing are truly not delivering the intentions and expected experience. It just feels limited not to be able to create subtasks, goals and subgoals, accounting systems, etc. There are so many ideas that would be finally unlocked and it would definitely take Airtable to a whole new level!

Can you please add comment functionality in functions? This would be a big help when understanding previous peoples work!!

What is the proposed idea/solution? If I link records in TableA to records in TableB via a "Link to another record" field, I get a column in each table reflecting the link. So I can look at the row in Table B and see which records from Table A link to it. However, as of now, when linking to another record in the same table I can only see on Record A that it links to Record B and Record C I link to -- there is no corresponding field on Record B or Record C that shows the records that link to it. Thus, I cannot run a rollup or look on the fields linking to me. How does is solve the user problems? This is valuable for modelling two-way markets. For example, I buy a lot of commodity in Record A. I sell some of the lot in Record B and the rest in Record C, it would be extremely time-saving to be able to link Records B + C each to A, as "from lot A", then to have a field on A which shows the sold quantity (Rollup of quantity from linked Records B + C). To accomplish the same today, you have to enter Record B + C, then open Record A for editing and put the link there -- greatly slowing data entry. Who is the target audience? Anyone linking records within the same table who wants to be able to calculate aggregates. this seems to be a common enough question on the forums to have elicited some long frustrated chains.

This is very useful for multiple nested conditions, and is basically a string of multiple IF-conditions, with the 'ELSE" condition being another IF. The google sheets documentation for the IFS function clearly explains this. It would be very helpful to make long nested formulas much more readable! Thanks for the great work with Airtable 🙂

What is the proposed idea/solution? Many times your summary bar won't give the "bottom line" of a field that the user is actually after. It only allows the very basics like "Sum", and "Average" but misses a universe of options the user needs. For instance, it can not even give a weighted average by taking into account the values of another field. Adding the option (see below) to customize a view's field summary metric (with a basic formula), will turn your database much more useful. Without being able to give things like a weighted average or calculate anything involving another field makes the ability of your database to give insights quite poor. This will solve that: customizing will allow me to name the metric I'm after, and use a formula to determine what is shows. Like below: ...

Right now, to format values pulled from a Currency field in a Formula field, users have to use something akin to the following formula to get “$65,756” to display as such. Otherwise, AirTable displays it as “65756”, no commas, no currency symbol: IF(
LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))<4,
{Trip Budget},
IF(
AND(LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))>3,LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))<7),
LEFT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))-3)&","&RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),3),
IF(
AND(LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))>6,LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))<10),
LEFT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))-6)&","&LEFT(RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),6),3)&","&RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),3),
IF(
AND(LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))>9,LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))<13),
LEFT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),LEN(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}))-9)&","&LEFT(RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),9),3)&","&LEFT(RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),6),3)&","&RIGHT(CONCATENATE({Trip Budget}),3),
)
)
)
) This is obviously inconvenient, and it doesn’t even take into account decimals or amounts greater than $999,999,999. I propose a new formula function that operates something like this: CURRENCY([number or field reference], [currency symbol]) => CURRENCY(12345.6,"$") = $12,345.60

What is the proposed idea/solution? In the rollup field settings, we will be able to pull another field as value, rather the rolled up field. How does is solve the user problems? Let's say you have Tasks and Projects tables which are linked. I want to see in the project table, the Assignee field from the last created task. Today, I can rollup the last task (with MAX(values)), but can't pull any field beside the date field. How was this validated? ... Who is the target audience? Everyone who uses linked records.

One of the most basic and best things I learned about Airtable is how to use " \n " to get the line breaks in a formula result. That makes it easy to format text in columns without need use gimmicks. Excel uses ALT+Enter and this one doesn’t work in AirTable. I suggest Airtable takes the input “ALT+Enter” on the keyboard and translates it into " \n ". That way more users benefit who may otherwise not know there is such a thing in Airtable. If I may take this a step further, perhaps adding formatting options would be neat. For example by adding /b for bold text in formula output. I know this is stretching airtable far beyond what it is expected to do, but here are some marketing folks using Airtable so it may be useful. Airtable Support Add a line break using \n When working with formulas - especially when combining several fields of information - it can often be helpful to program in line breaks and other formatting features to better display the result o...

What is the proposed idea/solution? Frustratingly there's still no Max_Date() or Min_Date() function to use within formula fields. There is obviously Max() and a Min(), but ultimately they're designed for checking numbers and returning the largest or smallest, and not dates. How does is solve the user problems? Have a read through this and you'll get an idea of the users struggle. 4 years have passed, and I face this exact same issue again now. https://community.airtable.com/t5/other-questions/how-do-i-return-the-most-recent-of-two-dates/td- In my case, I'm trying to write; MAX(LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Movie}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Network})) But unfortunately the Airtable Formula returns a zero. Ultimately, I'd like the ability to write this; MAX_DATE(LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Movie}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Network})) or MIN_DATE(LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Movie}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Network})) And have the date returned. Importantly, the above needs to work with an array of dates, and not just two. So for example; MAX_DATE(LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Movie}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Network}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Coverage})) or MIN_DATE(LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Movie}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Network}),LAST_MODIFIED_TIME({Coverage})) Who is the target audience? Anyone who's needing to simply compare an array of dates within a formula field and have the largest (or the smallest) date returned, with the correct date formatting applied to the return.
